The Miami Ute

I grew up back east and avoided these types of guys like the plague. They scared the bejesus out of me…every time I saw them I was reminded of that line from The Godfather:

Someday, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift on my daughter’s wedding day.

That was one of the greatest plays in Utah history. Even better was that it happened in Autzen against Oregon.

Tony, nothing good ever comes out of talking about BYU. In my book, it’s an instant downer.

Who? Isaac Wilson? Sort of like Chase Hansen.

He said that teams that come from sea level start to experience problems on long drives of 7 or more plays.

How about a 10 minute, 18 play drive to start the game? Then a quick three and out for the Gators offense and another long drive by the Utes. That would really set the tone.

Penix didn’t just have injury issues at Indiana. He had season-ending injuries three years in a row and only played an average of six games every season in which he was the starter. I agree with you and believe this is the season he comes back to the mean, unfortunately.

Marquise Blair, probably the scariest defender I’ve ever seen wearing a Utah uniform. A receiver would be taking his life into his own hands going down the middle knowing Marquise was waiting for him. If Sione Vaki plays to his level, 2023 will be for sure his last season as a Ute.

That last six game is brutal. Even the Cal game isn’t a gimme. Cal typically matches up well with USC and only lost 41-35 against the Trojans last year in the Coliseum. Richardson literally won that game for the Gators. If you do a deep-dive of that game, you can see that his athleticism carried the day. He was able to avoid at least 5-6 sacks and turn them into positive gains because of his escapability. Mertz is nowhere near the same player.
