Will we play Oregon State every year?

We’ve played them every year since joining the conference. Are they our assigned North rival or something? Not sure why I just noticed this, but I wanted to know if this is a fixed part of the schedule or just a quirk. I imagine it has something to do with the California schools always playing each other that this has to happen?

  • noneyadb

It’s on a cycle. Just the way it has worked out so far

  • Utahute72

Looks like we skip them in 2017 amd 2018

  • 89ute

the rotation with the OR and WA schools is 6 on 2 off. The WA series got taken off track due to stadium remodels but the WA schools will be back on the same track at some point.

    Tyler Huntley Red Zone

I like the idea of getting Huntley playing time but I was a little surprised at the timing of the change in the red zone.

  • 89ute

My guess is that Huntley was put in to run the zone read to lessen hits on Troy Williams. I’m betting it worked great in practice.

I was excited to see him come in too, but after the botched snap/bobble I of course questioned the sanity of the coaches. Just being a stupid, typical fan.

I didn’t like the idea of Troy running the ball as much as he did toward the end, this surprised me given how careful he was to not take any hits prior to this.

    • TWill is going to have to run. I like the way he has done it so far late in games. He has had some big lanes lately.

  • Utah is last in Red Zone conversions in the PAC 12, so Whitt has to try something.

    Utah getting lucky?!?

Ok, ok, ok, I know I’m talking crazy here, but hear me out. We have OSU, UCLA and Washington coming up.

    Here the lucky part:

OSU is a good team to get some limited reps in for our offensive players. McCormick, Moss, Patrick, etc.

we “should” beat them. Especially with them cing off their win over Cal. Cal beat us. It may be easy for them to get a tiny bit over-hyped for the game.

Thats luck #1. OSU beating Cal, celebrating too much, and maybe not being quite ready for us.

    Luck #2:

Rosen going down. UCLA has WSU this weekend. If WSU can take it to UCLA, does that team quit on Mora?

Do do they come into Utah with three conference losses, out of the race, and maybe paying more attention to So Cal ladies than the game?

Then comes Washington. Washington is good. Really good. But, so are we. And we are a TON more battle tested than Washington.

And Washington doesn’t have the size or talent of USC. We can beat Washington.

Maybe, just maybe, we are a little luckier than we think.

Or or maybe I’m just a homer. Lol.

  • 89ute

I’m a homer too, hard to disagree with you. But, every damn Pac-12 game is a war. OSU is going to be a battle. UCLA, even with a backup QB is going to be a war. I love this conference! Every game is a playoff game.

After all wreckage this weekend the Pac-12 Pick’em is outta control.

  • Utahute72

We have to win next week to ensure we get bowl eligible. After that it’s a crap shoot for a win. Oregon at home is probably the best shot. But UCLA, ASU and CU on the road are iffy at best. And Washington at Home is a huge mountain to climb.

  • Actually, the schedule has turned against us. We have UCLA, ASU and CU on the road, the latter two are tied with Utah for the PAC-12 South. If Rosen is done, then UCLA is finished and that should be a win. ASU and CU on the road will be the tough games. We get UW and Oregon at home. UW will be tough to beat and figuring that will be a loss. Oregon should be a win as they’re no longer the power house they used to be.

    Post Game Interviews

The quality of this is not great.  But I think the best moment comes at about 8:50.  They ask Marcus Williams about what Coach Whittingham said at half time.  He looks to the other two players and pushes back from the mic.  Then Troy Williams says: He said “Go Utes!”

I posted before that The Beavers would be our new rivals, supplanting BYU. No one agreed on Utefans. I just don’t like G Anderson and the fact he is now competing against the Utes for recruits in the PAC12.

Slimeball AZ players jumping our snap count

The reason for the false starts…

  • leftyjace
    1

No wonder Kyle’s handshake with RR was super short and sweet. Probably didn’t want to say much because he was miffed at him for trying to pull off something so illegal.

  • I don’t know the tail end of his comments makes it seem like he is more miffed at his coaches. Specifically Harding 8 penalties before they realize to change the count. I remember one exchange Handley was explaining the reason to Whitt in his ear. Whitt is like well you adjust dumbass to Harding. Harding said so $?&@ing fire me.

It was frustrating that Utah couldn’t adjust which again speaks volumes to the weakness on the offensive side of the ball. I wish Erickson would take over coordinator duties.

I feel like Whitt is similar to me. You can’t control what the refs or other team do you can control yourself and how you perform so why wasn’t it fixed sooner??

Edit: The last comment at the end is more flippant frustration with the refs than Rich Rod.

    • noneyadb

It’s been this way for awhile. ASU last year had figured out their play calls, took until 4th quarter before they made changes. Taking that long to make adjustments is ridiculous.

Saw comments saying the Utah and Stanford defenses both call out the snap count. I’ve never heard of Utah doing this. Anybody know if this is true? Or how common it is for teams to do this?

    • Utah has been flagged for it. Utah used to stem a lot back with Anderson. Whitt has moved away from it. Seems like Sitake and Scalley have as well.
