Iowa State also has a QB who threw for over 3100 as a freshman

Plenty of wins against Rice, UTEP & SMU. I even remember watching Utah rough up aTm on a Thursday night.

even for hyperbole, that went a bit far. The conference you are disparaging just threw you a lifeline while your previous conference was imploding around you and gave you a better deal than the previous 4 teams it admitted.

9-3 seems like a reasonable over/under considering all of the new opponents and assuming return to health. In the PAC maybe you had two new HC’s/programs a year to face, otherwise you were pretty much dealing with the same schemes from year to year which has been a luxury. 6 opponents on the 2024 schedule that Utah has either never faced or…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic 2024 schedule – Hot off the press in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Narf is correct. There were a number of PAC/Big 12 games on the schedule for 2024 and not all of them could be eliminated or incorporated into the conference schedule. The Utah / Houston game became a conference game as did Utah / parochial school. Utah / Baylor stayed as a non-con so that Utah would not have to find two new opponents.
K State…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic I don't much like out 2024 football schedule in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
The extra bye week is a function of the Labor Day / Thanksgiving timing where there are 14 weeks this year as opposed to the usual 13. All teams will go back to one bye week in 2025.

since the tires lied to Whitt about their road readiness, and it’s apparently not in his purview to verify anything.,,

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Harbaugh to the NFL – Chargers in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
I don’t think he’d be interested but Michigan seems like the type of school that Whitt might listen to if they were willing to back up the Brinks truck. His style would fit perfectly with their upper Midwest, last man standing mentality.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Useless reminiscing: in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Tabarracci had a good spring by all accounts but according to the rumors out of camp was behind Barton and Medlock. Knowing what he knows now, maybe he doesn’t transfer and is already a starter at either LB or TE. I can’t speak to whether he moved due to chasing immediate playing time or if there was another issue but at the time, both rooms…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic One of the weirdest things to me: People who bag on other people for wearing… in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
My example would be 2007. The week after Utah crushed UCLA, I went to the UW/UCLA game in Pasadena. I wore my Utah Football greys and I absolutely wanted to see what reactions I would get.
My point is that I was responsible for the reactions. I knew my audience and deliberately wore something that I knew some, not all but some, would react…[Read more]

If you wear something that is virtually guaranteed to get a reaction, you can’t really complain when there is a reaction. Or you shouldn’t get to. In this world of “I can do whatever I want and you are only to acknowledge it in a positive way because I’m living my truth”, I guess the question becomes why do you care what others think?

If a kid wants to go pro, getting on the field is what matters. The NFL will find you if you’ve got ability and/or measurables.
Stevie Tuikolovatu (sic?) is an example of a Utah backup who transferred and became a draft pick. It was before the portal so I didn’t include him.

Xavier Carlton is a starter at CAL.
The bigger issue is that if they weren’t good enough to eventually start at Utah, and didn’t go somewhere else to be a starter, should they have been on the roster in the first place? Everyone likes to point out the recruiting successes while conveniently ignoring the failures when talking about Utah’s great…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Dorian Singer officially a Ute! in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Singer in 2022 benefitted from having Cowing and MacMillan for DB’s to focus on and did his damage on 20 yard crossers. It remains to be seen if he will be utilized in same fashion (the Vele role) or if McLain will get those routes.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic My (too early) look at 2024 Utah football in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Utah doesn’t need a true “between the tackles, pound the rock” RB. I’d much rather see them find or develop a Miles Gaskin type. Someone who always makes the first guy miss, keeps his feet under him in tight quarters and can turn a no gain into 8 yards with regularity. They had one in Ty Jordan but that didn’t work out long term.
Bernard has…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Taeshaun Lyons in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Only 70-80? C’mon. A healthy Rising would have had 7 receivers with 100 catches each averaging 25 per. 5 running backs would have each gotten 1000 yards. The defense would never have given up a point.,,
I mean, if we are going to attribute never seen before success based on Rising coming back, why go short?

if the QB waits until he sees separation, he gets sacked. essentially the same problem this board has blamed on Barnes.
Penix and Nix threw in anticipation of a receiver getting separation. Caleb Williams ran around until DB’s lost coverage

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Taeshaun Lyons in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
After getting a first hand glimpse of the Barnes led passing game, he decided he’d rather have a piece of that instead of the UW throw game? Maybe he decided that UW wouldn’t showcase his latent blocking talent?
All kidding aside, we’ve seen blue chip receivers disappear in the Utah offense. I’m good with stacking talent at the position but…[Read more]
