chinngiskhaan started the topic Is there any one player that we can't afford to lose? in the forum Football 2 years, 9 months ago
Assuming that all others are healthy, is there any one player that is so important that losing them would derail any chance of a conference championship? I honestly don’t think so. The top end talent is not as elite as it has been in years past (IMO, we don’t have anyone on this team at a JJ/Lloyd/Bolles/Weddle level), or is at least too…[Read more]

“logan Kendall is an efficient blocker.”
That’s one way to characterize his blocking. His highlight film is hilarious because most of it is just him going out of his way to truck anyone he can find.

Yeah, I don’t see anyone attacking him personally. NBD. He transferred to a terrible situation. Not sorry for him.

Wow, I’m surprised someone on this site actually takes the time to read a post without jumping to conclusions first.
Your comment pretty much mirrors what I was thinking.
Our strategy the last 3-4 years has lead to us not having more than 4-5 commits going into the final stretch of the recruiting period… that has clearly changed in the last yea…[Read more]

Don’t know anything about him. Mid-ish three star right now. Offers from bad P5 programs, G5s… and us. Seems like we have abandoned the strategy of banking on higher ranked guys committing later. I feel like we have way more committs than we did at this time the last 2-3 years. Am I wrong?

Coaching: Can’t complain about anything here, though I have to wonder when Ludwig is going to figure out exactly what makes this team tick offensively. It’s a bit different for every group, and Kuithe being gone certainly changes things.
Rising: He was pretty good. Not his best, not his worst… closer to his worst than his best maybe? Not sure.…[Read more] -
chinngiskhaan replied to the topic Tavion Thomas is out of shape. Has this been discussed? in the forum Football 2 years, 9 months ago
He had some impressive runs, but he’s a true freshman. Also, I don’t think the offensive line was picking up guys like they should have been. He was consistently being hit in the backfield. Moss had issues as a young guy with vision as well. Glover will be fine. He needs to learn to keep his eyes up.

Okay… I wouldn’t call that the flip side of my opinion, but your points are nonetheless valid.
The flip side would be that I’m wrong and those aren’t things that should be worried about.

Is that it seems like Ludwig is still tinkering with the offense to try and find what works best for this group. Tinkering with RBs. Tinkering with redzone strategy, tinkering with how to get WRs involved… and now we are going to have tinkering at tge TE position.
I guess what I’m saying is that tinkering is happening because we aren’t good…[Read more] -

IMO that was more an issue of play calling than anything else (though you could easily argue that execution was the real issue). Ludwig’s favorite things to do in goal line situations are 1. run the ball up the middle 2. throw passes shy of the goal line and pray that we can run it forward from there.
His least favorite thing to do from inside…[Read more]

Well, against SDSU the offense finally opened up once we started to get the WRs the ball. The first series or two was all kuithe all the time, even if he was clearly not open.
I haven’t heard anyone argue that our offense has been crippled at all. I think most just want to see them get involved because they can see that WRs are at least some of…[Read more]

First let me just say that I have zero opinion about Holker leaving BYU, I don’t care… but the rumors about why he left got me thinking. Supposedly he wanted to get more touches, and felt that wasn’t going to happen at TSPP.
We Utah fans have been screaming for Rising to get the ball to the WRs more often. I’m sure every good team deals with…[Read more] -

Assuming the rest of the college football world falls off a cliff competitively (it’s already happening tbh). Which team would you cheer for if the rest of college football went away?
I’ve always been partial to Georgia to be honest. I feel like Whitt would be a perfect fit on their staff… I am also a bit of a UF fan for some reason. Always…[Read more] -

As far as BYU’s performance goes… I’ll just say that it was nice to see given how many BYU fans have tried to downplay our two dominating performances against Oregon last year… Also, I got a chuckle out of BYU fans thinking a Cal running back was going to be the savior of your running game. I admit that Brooks looks like a good running back,…[Read more]

I feel really bad for the guy. He was starting to look really good. If he can come back strong next year he has a chance to be RB1… and even if he isn’t, he’d get loads of playing time as the likely #2 back.

Diabate is injured. Tony said he’ll be out 3-5 weeks. Not sure where Tony heard that, but I don’t think he’d be repeating it if he wasn’t reasonably sure.

I’m meaning the pac12 championship the first time we played oregon in that game. I know, it’s not a great example.
Also, I’m not really attempting to knock the coaches, just throwing out a possible explanation for something that some people view as a problem.

After seeing Devin Lloyd perform so well in his first NFL game, it got me thinking about the great players we’ve had come through here, and the potential impact that has had on our coaching.
Guys like Devin Lloyd cover up major deficiencies in other players, and in defensive schemes. They make everyone around them, including their coaches look…[Read more] - Load More
