Notes from today’s interview

He says things are going good. He says he is getting the feel back as a QB.

The practice week is more normal. It’s nice to be in the huddle with the guys.

Still to be determined if he will play. After practice today, they will evaluate and make a decision.

Weddle and Barton do not play the same positions and have different athletic styles. Barton can never be Eric Weddle. Again, the only comparison is playing on both sides of the ball. I do not expect Barton to return punts, play Corner, or QB.

I am thinking more long-term and not just this season. I do not want Colorado to be a great football program. On the other hand, I dislike Oregon for abandoning the PAC12 as they did.

Colorado is the media darling. They had 11 million viewers in the late-night game last week. That has never been done before. We are playing at the same time this Saturday as Colorado. Our viewership will be significantly less because of the CU game.

I wasn’t trying to compare Weddle to Barton in any way except playing on both sides of the ball. Should Barton play some tight end? It’s not for me to say. Would I think it would be fun to see him play some tight end? Yes I do. Would I have him play a lot on offense? No.

I get what you are saying. Whitt did not suggest that Lander would play offense this season, but very possibly before he leaves Utah.

That being said, we are probably deeper at LB than any other position right now, so who knows…

Nice article on Lander Barton. Whitt mentions the possibility of Lander Barton playing on both sides of the ball at Utah. Whitt said on his coach’s show last night if Lander wanted to play tight end – he would be the best in the PAC12. It would be fun to see Barton getting some reps at tight end.

That seems to be the most logical. But, it would be nice to get QB1 more reps. However, we don’t know who QB1 is yet. Apparently, they will make that decision on Thursday and keep[ it secret until Saturday.

I understand that on a typical game week of practice, QB1 takes 80% of the reps. Well, there is nothing typical about our QB situation. Whitt tells us that Cam is practicing at full speed. So, what percentage of the reps is Cam getting in comparison to Nate and Bryson?

We had a good practice and no one got hurt today. The guys worked hard today.

We will have to be at our best to beat UCLA.

Takeaways from the first three games: The defense is playing well, especially the run. The offense needs to be more explosive. But, we are doing good at taking care of the football.

Coach Harding was asked about how they would recruit SoCal going forward. His response,”I am worried about how we are going to block the UCLA guys, I don’t have time to think about anything else.”

I got a kick out of his response.

I was very excited for our rematch with Florida. I was also excited to play Baylor. I was hoping we would see Cam Rising in the Weber game, so I was excited.

I have hopes that Nate Johnson will be our future. He certainly has athletic skills. He is very fast, but I don’t think he has developed into a great runner yet. He doesn’t break a lot of tackles, lacks total field vision, and doesn’t seem to be able to spin and fake when he is running. I think these skills can be developed. He has started…[Read more]

I won’t give you a thumbs down or thumbs up for simply expressing your feelings.

I think the coaches believed that Cam and Brant would be back for the season. We had a QB rooms with top recruits. I would not have gone to the portal for a QB (that’s just me). Now, as far as the tight end position goes – I would have gone hard after Holker. I…[Read more]

I hope for Rising’s future, that when he returns – he looks like he did against USC last October (prior to his first injury). I would like him to get a shot in the NFL. Regardless, he is a good man and has done a ton for Utah football. I will always be happy that he came to SLC.

The game on Saturday was methodical. We were not as explosive as we needed to be. Nate played well for his first start and didn’t make any glaring errors.

The defense was excellent. That has been our MO this season.

UCLA is a very talented team and it will be a tough game. He hopes that the crowd will be very loud this weekend.

I agree with what Josh Newman wrote about the status of our football team.

Things have been far from bad for Utah through three weeks, but I agree with this notion that they’re not completely fine either.
