Can you all please give this man the respect he deserves? He’s a four star recruit; top prospect in the state. To the extent he’s hearing anything negative from Ute fans in the recruiting process, I hope he realizes that will disappear instantly if he signs with us (and we’d all LOVE to see him blow out the Y in red).

Thanks for the summary! Sounds like he referred to his time in Utah in past tense? Did you get the sense that he’s for sure going to the draft (and not taking the final year + NIL$ option)?

There isn’t an equivalence here. If you don’t defend someone being attacked disproportionately for “wrong” speech, then the attackers will win. This just isn’t a situation where it makes sense to be neutral.
Frankly, we should know this with our relationship to BYU. Yeah, don’t be intentionally offensive to BYU alum. But when they come after…[Read more]

Talks of the merger have officially ended.
Hoping we just jump to the Big 12 now with the four corners. All this expansion for $$ just makes me want to go back to the roots and tradition of college football. There isn’t a sporting event in the state better than the Holy War.

The Big 12 would be a good option, and if it happens, I’d look forward to watching some Utah/Baylor matchups. But not sure why you’re coming to our forum and saying you don’t want Utah in your conference. That’s not a good look — and it’s rich considering you’re accusing *us* of being arrogant/exclusionary.
Maybe Baylor will become one of our…[Read more]

I’d pick C or D.
Curious why they’re only speculating USC + Washington. I would be extremely surprised if USC did that. IMO, what’s more likely is USC + all the California schools. I’m sure the BIG would love to have all those prestigious universities join + U$C football. USC likes this b/c tOSU. Berkeley, Stanford, and UCLA like this b/c Mic…[Read more]

I believe it. To be real, it would take a huge leap forward this season, but from what I’ve seen, Rising has the caliber to make the needed improvements.
Stroud and Young throw to 5* receivers with visible height, speed, and size advantages over the defense. Rising does not have that luxury. And as @fthey pointed out, it’s the intangibles.…[Read more]

I heard several years ago that we have a contingency plan in place to change the name to “Red Hawks” in just such a circumstance–if the Ute tribe tells us to change the name.

Don’t you think it’s possible he might come here and just redshirt for one year? Assuming Rising leaves after next year, that would put Dart in a great position to be QB1 going forward.

It’s awesome. If Utah State wins their bowl game, all three programs will be ranked. First time in history.
perceptionate replied to the topic Ohio State or Iowa? in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
Iowa. If we play Iowa, that means they beat Michigan in the Big 10 championship. So there would be a lot of buzz and excitement around both teams. I’m not really sure how motivated Ohio State would be in comparison.

I vaguely recall Whit being very angry at the athletic department when Kalani left because they weren’t giving him a big enough budget to retain high quality assistant coaches. So, if I’m not misremembering anything, Whit definitely valued Kalani as a coach and wanted him to stay.

The Fieldhouse is a protected historic building that just went through major renovations for preservation. It’s not going anywhere.
Hoping the new videoboard doesn’t obstruct the UTAH letters on the fieldhouse roof.
perceptionate replied to the topic Utah v. Oregon in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago
If we are talking *BEST* case scenario for the conference, then it is for an 11-2 Oregon team to still make the CFP after losing to Utah at Rice Eccles but then winning in the conference championship game. Utah would then be ranked at 9-4 going into the Rose Bowl (which would be far more respectable than an 8-5 unranked team).
This is extremely…[Read more]

There’s a leadership component to this as well. One of the cool things about this season is that we have really been able to witness Cam Rising’s awesome character and leadership. Even when he was the back-up, he was always engaged on the sideline, helping the team out, etc. When he got in the game, you saw the team energize around him and believe…[Read more]

Yes, I’m serious — and this is a lot more simple than y’all are making it. I saw a lot of Ohio State fans and commentators noting that their recruiting might take a hit because of the Cincinnati offer. And that is Ohio State.
We can argue mitigating factors, but it is a simple reality: When a football program in your state improves,…[Read more]

“Football reasons” is the key caveat. It’s one of a mix of factors that recruits consider when making their decision. Utah is still the better program for sure (and in the better conference) but BYU’s program, national profile, and ability to compete is *significantly* improved with the Big 12 offer. Now, some of the “non-football reasons” may…[Read more]
