That’s interesting because Harlan’s big thing was supposed to be his fundraising ability. Then again, this is some rando commenting on an article. Could be totally made up.

Relegation, on paper, seems like a good idea. In practice, it will be a disaster for everyone other than the blue bloods.
Relegation would create a P5 vs G5 recruiting disparity on steroids. Recruits with options aren’t going to want to sign with a school that is on the verge of relegation or has been relegated. So those schools will become…[Read more]

UteThunder replied to the topic One single play that changed the trajectory of the program in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago
Along those lines, I would say the one play that changed the trajectory of the program was Marty Johnson destroying his knee trying to get a meaningless record in a blowout of Indiana back in 2002.
Utah started the year 2-0 with wins over Utah State and Indiana. Without Johnson, we went on to lose 6 in a row with 5 of the 6 losses being one…[Read more]

Weren’t those numbers from his Freshman and Sophomore seasons? Those are pretty dang good for someone that young playing for teams that typically have loads of WR talent for him to compete with.

It’s more than just Harlan. Hill couldn’t find anyone either.

I think Hill’s motivation in taking that job was to help him get a P5 head coaching job; probably hoping to put himself in a position to replace Whit in a few years.

Would they? He only has that job because of his dad. I don’t think low ratings are going to get him replaced.

UteThunder replied to the topic BYU and Baylor in 2024 in the forum Football 1 year, 10 months ago
Harlan’s either lying, lazy, or dumb. I looked up teams with openings on their schedule shortly after we accepted the BigXII invite, and there were something like 20 schools with openings that match the current dates we have scheduled for Baylor and BYU.

2007 – We lost Brian Johnson, Matt Asiata, and Brent Casteel in the first two weeks. Not sure if there were any other key injuries early that year, but those three were tough to lose.

UteThunder replied to the topic PAC12 football after week 1 in the forum Football 1 year, 10 months ago
Going strictly off of what everyone has done so far, here is how I would rank them.
Colorado – Beat #17 TCU on the road.
Utah – Comfortable win over Florida at home.
Washington – Crushed Boise at home.
USC – Two dominating wins over SJSU & Nevada at home.
Oregon State – Dominated SJSU on the road.
WSU – Dominated CSU on the road.
Cal – Dominated…[Read more] -
UteThunder replied to the topic Gameday crew will come to SLC in the forum Football 1 year, 11 months ago
Chris Hill first started scheduling Thursday openers to accommodate fans who want to travel on Labor Day weekend. Harlan has kept it going, I would assume primarily for the same reason but there are obvious scheduling advantages to doing it this way.
Going back to 2003, we have only had 3 season openers that weren’t played on a Thursday.

How is this spiking the ball? It is commemorating a historic moment in our military history and paying tribute to those involved.

UteThunder replied to the topic Future OOC scheduling in the forum Football 1 year, 11 months ago
I would like to see Utah schedule as many games as we can against California teams not named USC or UCLA, as well as Texas G5s.
Utah State would be fun. Washington State and Oregon State would be good.
In addition to those, just continue to schedule one ‘A’ team from the other P4 leagues each year.

UteThunder replied to the topic Game times in the forum Football 1 year, 11 months ago
This is what I expect. Most of our home games will be in the late evening(5:00 kickoff or later), most of our road games will be in the earlier parts of the day(kickoff before 5:00). Games against BYU, Arizona, ASU, and Colorado (road or home) time slots will be a mixed bag depending on matchup intrigue.

UteThunder replied to the topic A lot of blame gets tossed at various schools in the forum Pac-12 1 year, 11 months ago
It seems to have been an effort to trim the P5 fat. They got rid of the 4 historically weakest and least popular teams from the Pac-12 in this round. Look for further fat trimming of the worst teams in the ACC in the next round.
