So much for stars. There are several 3* in the class with much more promise. Evaluation must be quite difficult.

Charlie replied to the topic Ceiling with Cam in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
Cam’s health is the issue. I noticed that several schools in the Pac had elite QBs transfer in, others have been developing QBs with lots of offers, but none of them could overtake a Cam led team. If he is healthy and stays we are lucky. A QB in the transfer portal has not or may not push us up a step.
I expect that Whitt will always desire…[Read more]

Very creepy seeing PSU fans singing that song to say the least.

Charlie replied to the topic Any updates on Rising's injury or status for next season? in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
Hopefully he only began thinking about this seriously on Tuesday. I expect there is a lot to discuss with doctors to make a plan. I expect a couple of TEs and a WR are also waiting to hear as well. As an UDFA I expect missing pro days and the columbine will push hard for him to take another college day. Lots to think about.

I get that we want everything, however, we need to understand the brutal facts of our current reality. This team and all before, has been built after several teams in the Pac and nationally have been put together. We are getting better but we have still picked recruits after the schools with old money. Yes we have won the conference now 2 years…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic why I think Cam will come back, in graph form in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
Cam may be injury prone due to how aggressively we run him. I am not sure the NFL will need him to run as much. Could he benefit from a year where we run him less and on broken plays run him out of bounds or to a slide?

Charlie replied to the topic Oregon Transfers in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
Transfers and HS alike, the key is evaluation. Sometimes a player will make a better effort with a second chance. Sometimes they solve their injury issue. Sometimes 4* HS players never see the field or disappoint. You can hit or miss with either. Whitt makes his living being above average at evaluation. I do know his primary focus is one…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic OnlyU, are we done or are there some more presents coming? in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
I would not think Holker would impact Keithe, he would be the featured receiver in any scenario . I hope Keithe comes back and pushes into the early rounds of the draft. Next, I would hope Yassmin comes back given his recent success he could have a great year. There is still room for Lyons since we also have the 13 package. Hopefully there is…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Mason Tufaga to the Portal in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
I expect Lander will be very good given he has moved past a handful of 4* LBs. Utah’s defense will also draw very good LBs in the portal due to how Utah makes use of the position. It would seem you need experience, an understand of the defense, and very good LBer skills or possibly a great deal of 2 of the 3. Given that there are 5 possible…[Read more]

Like so many things in life you can take a great idea like you and your mom having something unique each game to enjoy but with the risk that you can make that something very disgusting. It is all part of letting people know what kind of person you are. The next issue is young kids watch sports and in junior high like to copy the personalities…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic I’m having fun imagining JJ and Nate running the offense in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
As a senior in HS, Nate threw for just about the same yards and TDs as Rising. If his development is similar he will be just fine. Myself, I am happy to have a second QB with very different skills.

Charlie replied to the topic Punter, placekicker in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
Not sure but I think the Pac 12 scholarship guarantee rule went the way of the buffalo with the new transfer rules. In times past, often more than 1 new kicker came in and there was a contest to see who got a scholarship. Maybe even punter. If a backup started playing they often waited for a scholarship to become available.

Charlie replied to the topic 2022 Satisfaction Level in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
Without the rule change, USC would be #4 going into the CCG. If they beat Washington in the CCG they would go to the playoffs and Utah would go to the Rose Bowl due to the #11 ranking in the CFP (Washington was #12). If USC loses the CCG Washington would go to the Rose and it would be likely USC would go next but not a given. Oregon and UCLA…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Ohio State hedging their bets when they decided to not play in the Rose Bowl? in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
Odd that Alabama and OSU can’t make it to their CCG, take a week off and benefit from higher ranked teams in other conferences loosing in their CCG.

Charlie replied to the topic Four games Redshirt allotment in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
Could it be considered that Nate is good enough he may not need 4 more years even considering an injury. Oddly, Whitt may not be concerned with 2026. It would seem if Nate is on course to graduate and be gone in ’25 Whitt would let him chose to play in such a historic last true Rose Bowl. Odds are we don’t always finish a year at this height.

Charlie replied to the topic After last night's contests, Massey has our Utes at #10, 1st in the Pac-12 in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
I question OSU and Alabama ahead of undefeated TCU as unlikely. USC does not fall that far, so far there is only one team they have not beat. As an example, Michigan would beat OSU over and over as well. The dilemma is they can not be higher than Utah.

Charlie replied to the topic Say what you want about Rising. in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
It looked like the defender’s helmet contacted Rising’s facemask sending the helmet flying. How that hit sent the helmet so far without impacting his face is a wonder. I thought the facemask was part of the helmet. It was also a secondary player cleaning up an initial hit which is often not viewed well by refs.

Charlie replied to the topic Thoughts on the (short version of) the game in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
Williams had a cut on the little finger I believe. Possibly, on the long run he could have tweaked his leg. On the play he could have easily run out of bounds even with more yardage but slowed to slide just as he was caught from behind. I thought he was out of character not going for the TD but looking for blockers to clear a path. Still, thru…[Read more]
