UTEopia replied to the topic Another record setting year for Utah athletics revenues! in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
I assume the years looked at included the Covid year. I believe the athletic department reported a $20-25 million difference between revenue and expenses, but offset that loss with monies from reserves.

UTEopia replied to the topic Is the Indiana Fever the dumbest team name in the history of the world? in the forum Basketball (Women) 1 year, 4 months ago
Utah Jazz is the dumbest, most incongruent name ever. The name stuck when the team move to Utah from New Orleans because the owner did not want to buy new uniforms.

UTEopia replied to the topic Now spring practice is over – what do you think… in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
I just don’t see any veteran QB better than Barnes being interested in transferring. If Rose were to transfer, I could see them looking to bring in an underclassman, but would that do anything to provide quality depth this year? Could you get a sophomore better than Rose? Maybe, but he would likely lack real game experience. I mean look at…[Read more]

Moroni is an interesting story. His family is in our LDS Ward in San Diego. His grandfather, Joe Cravens, was a QB at Utah in the early 60’s. He and Norm Chow were two of the first Hawaiians to play at The U. When Moroni was fairly young, his parents were both killed in a car accident. He and his 6 siblings were the raised by Joe and his w…[Read more]

UTEopia replied to the topic How bad would losing Burgess be? in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year, 4 months ago
I am guessing Burgess played a significant role in the recruitment of Jaxson Johnson who will be headed directly on a mission. I believe Johnson is the No. 2 rated Utah HS recruit this class. There are supposedly a number of highly regarded Utah recruits in the 2025 and 2026 classes.

I believe a lot of it has to do with the stars of the women’s game are around for 3 years and the men not so much.

Mullen was never WR coach at Utah. It was Billy Gonzalez.

Kneepkins did not tear her achilles. She broke some bones in her foot. Palmer has had concussion issues and they were aggravated when she tried to play.

Hill went after Few. Harlan went after Few. Better programs than Utah have repeatedly gone after Few. Like Whit, he is comfortable.

UTEopia replied to the topic Utah should demand unequal revenue sharing from B12 in the forum Football 1 year, 6 months ago
Yes, we need to show we aren’t team players so that we are more appealing when everything shifts again. Hell, Oregon and Washington are taking haircuts to join BIGFOX. You can bet the buy-in for super leagues will be significant in amount and duration. Watch the SEC/10 “study group” suggest the buy-in will be $100 mil up front and $50 mil a…[Read more]

UTEopia started the topic Utah 2024 Football in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
I consider the bowl game tomorrow to be the start of the 2024 season. I took a look at the projected 2024 roster as it currently sits although I know there will be some more subtractions and additions.
Utah has 77 scholarship players. Of those, 21 are seniors and 17 are juniors. Due to covid, some from the senior class might have an additional…[Read more]

UTEopia replied to the topic Recruiting Strategy in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
I don’t think the recruiting framework used by the Utes will change going forward. However, I can’t help but believe that the change from the PAC12 to the Big12 in late July resulted in some adjustment in thinking by some west coast recruits. I suspect that Utah will dig deeper in Texas and Florida moving forward. They might also take a look at…[Read more]

UTEopia started the topic 2023 Roster in the forum Football 2 years, 1 month ago
The 2023 roster is posted and there are some interesting items. First, Jadon Pearson, a JUCO safety from a year ago who entered the portal during spring ball, is on the roster. Second, A number of 2023 signees are not on the roster: Dallen Bentley a 4 star TE from Snow, John Randle Jr, a 4 star RB from Kansas, C J Jacobson a TE from Idaho,…[Read more]

UTEopia replied to the topic Lazar to UCLA in the forum Basketball (Men) 2 years, 4 months ago
I didn’t say I was happy to see him leave. I wish he hadn’t. He could have been the best player on the Utes and I would still see him as a 7 or 8 guy on a legit NCAA tourney team. I think he was actually the sixth guy at Utah until the Madsen injury. Unfortunately for him, he was forced to play the 1, 2 and 3 because Exacte wasn’t ready and…[Read more]
